International Charities
We advise domestic clients on facilitating the movement of philanthropic capital from the United States to serve charitable institutions abroad. We help private foundations make grants abroad, including complying with expenditure responsibility requirements.
As a result of our experience, we can provide equivalency determinations for new portfolios of private foundation grantmaking with great efficiency around highly complex US public charity federal tax requirements. We also work with international conservation organizations developing their presence in the United States. This includes setting up “friends-of” organizations in the United States that allow an existing international organization to offer American donors tax-deductible donations for supporting a charitable project, including to protect unique habitats.
